The sailing club Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) of Hamburg, Germany sponsors the annual Rolex Baltic Week held in August. Ancora Marina in Neustadt/Holstein hosts the race vessels and race events are held in Luebeck Bay on the Baltic Sea. Racing at Baltic Week takes in the last regatta of the Farr 40 European Circuit and the Melges 24 European Championships.

Sponsors of the Rolex Baltic Week bill the event as the Crème de la Crème of the one design racing. Farr 40 teams will compete in 2007 from August 17th to August 19th in the fifth and final series of the European Circuit. This will be the first Farr 40 regatta to be held in Germany in 10 years. Melges 24 racing will be held from August 18th to August 23rd to determine the European Championship in the class. "We are just as proud to host the German Farr 40 premiere as we are to organize the Europeans of the demanding Melges 24," says Manuel Cadmus, President of the sponsoring club NRV.

The Farr 40 regatta offers excellent preparation for sailors intending to compete in the 2007 Rolex Farr 40 World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark later in the same month of August. "We have moved the start of the Farr 40 one day forward to make it fit better with the international regatta calendar of the top sailors," explains the president of the Farr 40 European Fleet, Wolfgang Schaefer. International competitors are expected from the United States, Japan, and Australia for the event. Non-European vessels compete as guests in the European Circuit. Circuit events are hosted in Germany, Italy, Norway, and Denmark.

The last Melges 24 event held in Neustadt, Germany was their class 2002 World Championships. Race sponsors expect more than 80 boats and 400 sailors to compete in the 2007 event. Sailors are racing for the Giorgio Zuccoli Trophy awarded to the overall Melges 24 European Champion. Giorgio Zuccoli was an Italian sail maker who won the first Melges 24 European Championship in 1992. The best amateur crew of the regatta is awarded the Menno Meyer Trophy.

The Notice of Race has been issued for the race. Entries for the races can be made on-line at the Rolex Baltic Week website. Baltic Week is the only Rolex sponsored event held in Germany each year. Rolex sponsors sailing regattas across the world. The winning skipper or helmsman of the Farr 40 and Melges 24 yachts in the event receive Rolex chronometers.
