2008 was a good year for the United States Coast Guard and a number of videos showing the agency's operational highlights have been released.

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has released its picks for the top ten video compilations released by the agency for 2008. Subjects shown are as varied as the missions tasked to the Coast Guard. Among its many missions, the Coast Guard is responsible for ensuring homeland security, safe navigation of vessels, search and rescue, icebreaking, and drug interdiction.

In a press release announcing the top video compilations prepared by the Agency for 2008, Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad W. Allen said, "This has truly been a historic year for the Coast Guard and its Guardians. Through their relentless vigilance they have kept our nation safe and secured our national, economic and environmental interests -- both at home and abroad -- just as their predecessors have done for the last 218 years. These videos are just a few of the shining examples that showcase our shipmates standing the watch. It is this selfless dedication and devotion to duty that motivates me to ensure our men and women have the best resources and support available to meet the complex and dynamic hazards and threats of the 21st century."
