Hilarious! I'm glad your friend has a sense of humor about his "Captain Crunch" moniker. Your article reminded me about how my dad and his fishing buddies have a running bet every summer about how many cars end up in the water (the launch site is a long wide low-grade driveway-type-of-thing into the bay). It was amusing every year except the year my dad did it with his old Plymouth. He was strangely unamused that year.

very funny article. I'm glad Captain Crunch could see the humor in what happened. Was he responsible for paying for the damage?

In response to Boating Mistakes posted by JodiG:

Under rules established by the Coast Guard, a vessel operator is always responsible for their actions. There can be variations on this, but luckily the owner had good insurance. It wouldn't have been so bad, but the dock he hit cost just under $1 million to build and wasn't a year old yet. The capper is that the same guy's boat sunk at the dock a few months later and broke of the finger floats. Oops.

I have so many boating disaster stories that I have seriously thought about putting them in a collection.
